Implant Dentistry: Staying Ahead of the Curve

While dental implants are a popular option for restoring missing teeth, they require precise placement that should be left to the experts. Dr. Kemp has completed more than 235 continuing education hours in implant dentistry and provides this service to patients across the Triad several times each month.

In Dr. Kemps 10-month course on implant dentistry, he developed the knowledge and skill to place dental implants with precision. He also completed an all-day course on imaging for implant dentistry, offered in collaboration with UNC Dental School’s Department of Radiology. During this hands-on workshop, he learned how to better interpret cone beam CT scans. These advanced 3D images, which are offered in our office, ensure every patient’s implant is placed with optimal care. As a result of Dr. Kemp’s continuing education initiatives (typically taken only by periodontists and oral surgeons), our patients with missing or broken teeth can experience the restored function and appearance of their natural tooth.

When patients come into our office for an implant, Dr. Kemp will first assess the treatment needed for preparation. Sometimes a tooth has been missing for years, but often, a broken tooth must first be extracted. If an extraction occurs, the site must heal completely before the implant can be placed. The implant is made of small metal posts that are designed to mimic natural tooth roots. They are surgically placed beneath the patients gums, and over the course of a few weeks, fuse permanently with the jawbone. Once this process is complete, Dr. Kemp can apply a crown that integrates perfectly with the adjacent teeth. After the crown is applied, the patient goes on as if they have their natural tooth. Other than regular brushing and flossing, no additional care is needed!

Interested in an Implant?

As stated by the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, “There’s a difference between “dentists who do implants” and “dental implant experts.” While there are numerous dentists that place dental implants, patients should trust their care to someone who has invested the time and energy into mastering this innovative treatment option. Going the Extra Mile for Health & Safety

MK Dental is committed to the health and safety of every patient and staff member.

To provide the highest level of care, Dr. Kemp not only has to be educated on proper precautions, but the entire practice as well. Recently, the MK team, including Dr. Kemp, dental hygienists, dental assistants and office staff, closed for a day and dedicated time to education around excellence in health and safety. The team traveled to a certification course in infection control and learned about everything from proper sterilization to protective clothing. After the course, Dr. Kemp invited an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) expert consultant to come into the office, examine current practices and offer guidance on ways to improve.

Same-Day Crowns: Less Time in the Dental Chair, More Smiles

No one likes to visit the dentist multiple times to address a single issue. Our patients are busy people, and we strive to provide the highest quality care in the most convenient manner. One way we accomplish this is through same-day crowns, an innovative technology that has been giving our patients a hassle-free experience since 2008. Now that’s something to smile about!

Who Needs a Crown?

Crowns are commonly used to protect and strengthen a tooth that has had endodontic therapy, also known as a root canal. They are also used in cases when a simple filling cannot correct extensive tooth damage or decay. Sometimes, patients will elect to get a crown for cosmetic reasons – to mask discolored or misaligned teeth.

Why Same-Day Crowns?

In the past, patients would make 2-3 trips to the dentist before their crown could be placed. At MK Dental, you can get your tooth restored with a crown in a single visit. We have the in-office technology to custom-fit your tooth for a crown, to make the crown with high-quality materials, and to bond it to your tooth for lasting function.

Why MK Dental?

Not only does Dr. Mark Kemp have the technology to offer same-day crowns, he has the expertise to do it well. In fact, Henry Schein, a leading distributor of same-day crown technology selected Dr. Kemp as an expert clinician. Through this partnership, he attends meetings and offers advice for other dentists interested in investing in same-day crown technology for their practices.
